Almost over a year ago July 2011 

I had microbraids in for the summer. Really long ones and I decided I would take them out and wash my hair. Regular routine  Take my hair out, and comb it thru.  I went to the shower to wash my hair and all of a sudden KNOTS like dreads were in my hair. I started to comb furiously  and so enough i saw piles of hair in the tub. I cried in the tub like if my mother died. Soon enough my mom found me in the tub screaming in terror. Her face was confused and she told me i had to cut the knots out. CUT was NOT in my vocabulary. I had long hair down to the middle of my back and now I have to cut it. I cried while the hair fell to the ground I just stared at it. I walked to the mirror and the person I saw was so vulnerable  I had NOTHING to hide behind. I thought my hair was my beauty but in fact it was how I walked, talked, laughed, smiled, moved, etc. I had to grow to love myself in those few minutes. I’ll never forget that day.
