Brown Beauty of the Week: Gladys Knight. Gladys was born May 28, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a singer-songwriter, actress, humanitarian and author. She is also known as “The Empress of Soul” and best known for hits recorded with her group ‘Gladys Knight and The Pips” from 1966 to the late 70’s. As a solo act she has one four grammys along with other numerous awards. Gladys has also made guest appearance on several television shows and movies. She currently has a new single out called “I Who Have Nothing”.
