A Curl is a Curl: Are 4c Spirals Coveted?-via A Curl’s Best Friend.com

Ways You Can Stop the Cycle and Help Celebrate 4a-c Hair:

Affirmations- Giving positive affirmations whether they are to your self or to a stranger is a huge step. A little encouragement goes a long way.
Watch the Lingo- Words all have a different weight and meaning to them depending on the context in which they are used. Be sure your jokes or terms of endearment are not offensive or self-loathing. Kinky is kinky as long as it is said and received with love.
Special Occasion-Try rocking your natural hair. Do a twist out. Add a flower accessory. There is nothing wrong with wanting a change and straightening your hair but know that you don’t have to in order for it to be special.
Being the Butt of the Joke- Example: while attending any costume parties, ask yourself before sporting an afro wig unless you are going as something that reflects beauty. Sometimes that can read as “my hair is joke”. Be conscience of those around you and whether or not they are laughing with you or at you.
Reflect- Ask yourself if you too harbor any feelings of doubt and contempt for textured natural hair. It’s a difficult conversation to have but a necessary one.

kinks-n-curls:

New Year’s is very much near and some of you are getting ready to do the big chop, starting another year going natural, or even transitioning. Starting a hair goal can keep you motivated for the new year.
Here are some ideas we’ve done before and started to do:
No Heat for a certain period of time.If you love to press your hair often, give your hair a good break. Perhaps give it 6 months to a year off.
Try different hair styles once a week.If you’re the type to have your hair up or down and do braid or twist-outs most of the time—switch it up. There are many hair tutorials on YouTube to rock both short and long hair.
Really Detangle you hair.Don’t give your hair an half-assed detangle. It’s okay to work from the tips to the roots. If you take your time it is worth it and you’ll see less breakage, and your hair will pop much more.
Try something new that will benefit you hair.Try oils if you haven’t before. Give you hair a treat such as; Bentonite clay hair mask treatment, coconut milk treatment, avocado, or banana. Perhaps give a pre-poo or an herbal tea hair rinse a try.

Because I’m going natural, this is what some of my friends expect me to look like. Black power fist and African pattern everything. Stereotypical much? The top is actually a head tie to go with my Garifuna outfit.
